The former president, locked in a tight race against Vice President Kamala Harris and needing to know he’s got the Tar Heel state in the bag, has made it known he’d be campaigning there – without the MLK-hating, slavery- and transgender porn-loving Black guy at his side.

There was a time when Trump loved himself some Robinson, whom he once adoringly called “Martin Luther King on steroids.”

Trump is having to quit Robinson, the GOP’s nominee for governor of North Carolina, because CNN just went upside Robinson’s sizable noggin.

The network reported that Robinson, a Black social conservative who has castigated transgender people, nonetheless waxed eloquent on transgender porn on the pornography site “Nude Africa” a decade and a half ago.

“That’s fucking hot,” CNN reported Robinson wrote on the site. “It takes the man out while leaving the man in! And yeah I’m a ‘perv’ too!”

CNN reported that Robinson called himself the “Black Nazi.” It said Robinson referred to Martin Luther King Jr. as a “commie bastard.” And the network reported that Robinson didn’t really see anything wrong with that whole slavery thing.

“Slavery is not bad,” the network said Robinson wrote in 2010. “Some people need to be slaves. I wish they would bring it back. I would certainly buy a few.”

How has Robinson responded to these allegations? He’s gone straight Shaggy. Wasn’t me.

As CNN’s story was about to break, Robinson took to social media. “Let me reassure you, the things you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson,” he said.

Robinson has hinted that artificial intelligence could be behind the whole thing as a way to keep him from winning. The problem is that, in 2010, when Robinson was reportedly talking up human bondage, the only “AI” we knew of was NBA star Allen Iverson.

Trump will find a way to move on from his North Carolina main squeeze. He’ll have to. There is no scenario where he can lose North Carolina and win the White House.

The race has been centered on seven swing states – Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Nevada. Numbers crunchers and pundits generally have tossed North Carolina and its 16 Electoral College votes into Trump’s bag.

Harris and the Democrats, though, aren’t letting Trump forget his lost love in North Carolina. They’ve paid for highway billboards tying Trump to Robinson. And the Harris campaign’s young meme merchants are hard at work, setting Robinson on rhetorical fire and blowing his embers into the dry straw of Trump’s campaign.

The math a man needs to get to 270 Electoral College votes and the presidency doesn’t math if you’re starting out by subtracting 16.

Duras had a line for Trump’s predicament. “I meet you. I remember you. Who are you? You’re destroying me.”
