More than a month after 50 Cent’s ex-girlfriend Daphne Joy accused him of rape and abuse in an Instagram post, the rapper is responding via the courts.

On Monday (May 6), 50 Cent — whose real name is Curtis Jackson — filed a defamation suit against his ex-girlfriend Daphne Joy. The couple share an 11-year-old son, Sire.

The lawsuit, filed in Texas, states that Joy — whose real name is Daphne Narvaez — made “false accusations” causing the “In Da Club” artist to be subjected to “extensive public ridicule, hatred and contempt.” He added that her social media post was a “purposeful attempt” to ruin his reputation.

In a statement, Jackson’s attorney Reena Jain of Blank Rome explained that “despite being given ample opportunity to retract a false and malicious retaliatory accusation, Narvaez has shamefully chosen to interfere with her 11-year-old son’s relationship with his loving father by falsely calling him a ‘rapist.’”

The court documents also say Narvaez “retaliated” against Jackson’s custody filing by posting several “defamatory statements” to Instagram which “falsely and publicly accuse Jackson of rape and physical abuse during their prior relationship, in a purposeful attempt to…destroy his personal and business reputation.”

Her claims also allegedly harmed “Jackson’s commercial and business interests, negatively affect his custody case, and prevent him from seeing his minor son.” Jackson has called Narvaez claims downright false. The filing also reveals that Jackson and his legal team apparently gave Narvaez “multiple opportunities” to either fix or remove her statements.

When she refused, Jackson was forced to take action in order to “vindicate his rights and protect his reputation.” In March, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones filed a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs and accused Narvaez of being a sex worker for Combs. Narvaez publicly denied Jones’ allegations, and Jackson mocked Jones’ claims, causing Narvaez to respond with allegations of her own.

Jackson is seeking more than $1 million in monetary damages.
