Schwartz wins 29th Anchor Point Salmon Derby

Saturday was a good day of fishing for the Resolute.

Arthur Schwartz, on the Resolute, won first place in the 29th annual Anchor Point King Salmon Derby, which took place on Saturday, April 27. His fish, weighing in at 21.9 pounds, earned him a cash prize of $1,305.

Schwartz also won the $200 side bet, earning him an additional $840.

Mark Roberts on the Fog King placed second with a fish weighing in at 19.85 pounds. His cash prize totaled $630. Patrick Metzger on the Reflections placed third with a 15.5 pound fish, earning a cash prize of $360.

The average fish prize went to Matt Denn, who also fished on the Resolute. His fish weighed 13.4 pounds and came with a cash prize of $270.

This year’s Calcutta winner was Jesse Pasch, who earned $975. Pasch was the average fish prize winner in 2023 and 2022.

Keith Herring won both the $150 side bet and $50 side bet, earning $1,560 in total between the two side bets. Both Pasch and Herring also fished on the Resolute — meaning that the boat won first place, average fish, and all three side bets this year.

All four anglers on the Resolute caught a fish on Saturday.

Forty-five anglers participated in this year’s derby. Eleven fish were caught during the event, netting a total of 155.55 pounds of salmon.

The official weigh-in crew for this year’s tournament came from Natures Ventures. The Calcutta Auction was hosted Friday night by the newly opened Angry Salmon, housed in the former Anchor River Inn hotel and restaurant. The tournament winner announcement on Saturday was hosted by the Anchor Point VFW Post 10221.
