Now I’ve learned Mel has been back in the studio and is ready to release her first single in more than a decade after teaming up with British producer KDA.

He scored a No1 in 2015 with the song Turn The Music Louder, which was a collaboration with Katy B and Tinie Tempah, so there are high hopes.

A source said: “Mel isn’t a very confident singer and it has taken a lot for her to get back in the studio.

“But she has seen her bandmate Shaznay Lewis do it this year and wants to push herself.

“The plan is for her song with KDA to come out soon and everyone around her is hoping it will encourage her to continue with more music.”

Her first major effort as a solo artist came in 2003 with a single called Do Me Wrong.

But she was dropped after it failed to become a major hit.

There were a few other tracks released but her last tune was in 2012, when she sang on electronic DJ Fur Coat’s track Fall’s Away.
