Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

One Florida county court is providing a “new hope” for Star Wars fans who are dreaming of a galactic wedding!

The Clerk of the Circuit Court in Clearwater, Florida, announced on Thursday, April 25 that it will be holding a Star Wars-themed wedding ceremony for fans of the popular movie series on its celebration day — May 4.

The wedding ceremony has been appropriately dubbed, “May the ‘Vows’ Be With You,” and will take place at the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s downtown Clearwater location from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Clearwater is located approximately 22 miles west of Tampa, Florida.

“Couples are invited to join us for a celebration like no other, where love and the Force unite,” the county shared in its announcement. It also shared a poster for the event, which showed a red and blue lightsaber crossing paths.

Couples who sign up for the event are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Star Wars-inspired costumes in order to “add to the galactic atmosphere,” per the announcement.

They will also get additional Star Wars-themed goodies for participating in the event, including two exclusive galactic event cards. Couples can also purchase a Star Wars-themed commemorative marriage certificate and specialized photo package to help them celebrate the big day.

“We are thrilled to offer couples the opportunity to unite in matrimony in a galaxy far, far away, right here in Clearwater,” Ken Burke, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller said in a statement in the release.

The Clerk of the Circuit Court noted that spots are limited and couples can schedule a time to get married on their website, which will be on a “first-come, first-served basis.” As of Friday, April 26, there were still several time slots open.

“Don’t miss this chance to celebrate love, Star Wars, and the joy of marriage in a truly unique and unforgettable way,” the Clerk of the Circuit Court said.

May 4th — also known as “May the Fourth Be with You” — is known as a special day that fans celebrate the popular movie series created by George Lucas. Since its inception by fans, LucasFilm and even Disney have embraced it and rolled out special features and events to mark the annual celebration.

To gear up for the special day, Disney set up a page for it on its website, where people can watch the latest shows in the Star Wars realm and check out the news from the universe. The website also provides fans with Star Wars-inspired recipes and DIY costume ideas.
