Sophie revealed that she was quoted a total of £32,500 to transform her home, but thanks to her cost-cutting tips, she and her partner spent just £9,250, saving them a jaw-dropping £23,250.

Sophie took to social media to share the steps the couple took to save cash, as she said: “Here’s five things we did when renovating our home that saved us thousands.”

KITCHEN DESIGN

When it came to Sophie’s kitchen, she explained: “We planned and designed our own kitchen and ordered it online.

“It cost £7,500 instead of the £26,000 we were quoted. This saved us almost £19,000.”

DIY PANELLING

To give her hallway a glow up, Sophie added: “We did our own DIY panelling in our hallway.

“This cost us about £250 for the dado and moulding, instead of the £2,000 we were quoted for someone to do it for us.

“I love the way panelling transforms a space.”

TILED IT

Sophie was able to save a whopping £1,300 on her kitchen tiles, as she continued: “We sourced our kitchen floor tiles from a factory outlet.

“This cost us £1,200 rather than £2,500. This saved us a lot of money.”

SLATTED FENCES

Not only this, but she saved £1,750 by building her own slatted fences in her garden, as she shared: “We built our own slatted fences using roofing battens.

We were quoted £5k to transform our garden but did it ourselves on a budget – levelling the lawn set us back just £75

“We attached each batton to the original concrete fencing posts.

“It cost £250 instead of £2,000.”

UPCYCLING

And if that wasn’t enough, another way that Sophie and her partner were able to save money was through upcycling, as she concluded: “We upcycled our existing furniture for £50 – so here you can see our orange oak dining table completely transformed with a sand and paint.

“We also bought a cheap console table, painted it black, and it gives it such a different look.”
