But according to dog behaviourist Will Atherton, there’s one breed that should be avoided unless you’ve got great “skill and experience” in handling them.

In a clip posted to TikTok (@iamwillatherton), he explains exactly why he advises people to steer clear of the Mastiff breed.

He explains that while there’s no doubt they’re “lovable, amazing dogs,” Will warns that they’re “incredibly powerful.”

The dog whizz adds that if you don’t have the “skill and experience” required to manage them, he points out that they can easily develop “reactive aggressive behaviours.”

Despite them often being “gentle scaredy cats,” he says not to be deceived, adding they the huge size of the dog means it can be “incredibly dangerous” if not in the right hands.

He adds that if that if skill and experience is something you’re not able to provide, then you should steer clear of this breed.

The clip quickly went viral, garnering a whopping 163k and several comments, with many dog owners sharing their own experiences.

“I found this. Always had Staffies but got a DDB and he is a nightmare. Unpredictable and reactive,” wrote one.

Another added: “Corso’s are very stubborn also, I love them ,it’s funny, you need to be the Alpha, they’re hard to train for many. Experience is crucial, you’re right.”

And a further advised: “Basically do your homework before getting any dog!”
