‘Colleges warn of punishment for disruptions’

Columbia University had police break up a pro-Palestinian encampment on campus, Friday’s newspapers report. “Over 100 people arrested after refusing to vacate” the camp, The Washington Post says. The New York Times puts Columbia’s action in context, noting that “colleges warn of punishment for disruptions” across the country “after years of often loose enforcement of their own rules,” pushed by “alumni, donors and Republican lawmakers” but also a “gnawing sense that civility on campus has broken down.” The New York Post cheers Columbia’s crackdown, declaring “Evict-ory!”
