Beyond The Frontier

Inspired by Starflight 2 and the manner in which the developers told their story. While not being a combat focused game, the real-time combat is still tactical and slow in nature. You’ll have access to point defense, cruise missiles, mine laying/collecting systems, special weapons and much more which make the combat engaging.

This first article will speak briefly on some major features of the game, and subsequent articles will give more details on those features.

Exploration:

Anomalies come in several types, some points are stabled and referred to as fluxes. Others are unstable and appear and decay over time. The unstable conduits can lead to so-called ”dark sectors”… sectors whose star has died. These sectors are completely dark.

Encounters:

The sector is alive with several different alien races, some are friendly, others neutral and some completely hostile. You can engage in conversation and obtain information through pre-determiend questions, similar to Starflight 2’s interaction system. These conversations will reveal clues about the story and interesting places to explore and technology to obtain.

Combat:

The starting ship is quite capable but there are others you can obtain along the way. Each ship has lasers, missiles, point defense and other special weapons you can deploy. For instance there is a mine laying system allowing you to lay out a minefield in any pattern, you also have a drone which can retrieve the mines and return them to your ship.

Trade:

You will of course be able to engage in trade of various commodities and sell things you gather while exploring.

Auxilliary Vessel:

You can launch and control an auxilliary vessel from your main ship and use it to explore areas your main ship cannot go. There are anomalies which are too small in mass for your main ship to traverse and this is where your shuttle craft comes in.

Salvaging and mining and looting are all included.

Stay tuned!
