Tuesday’s front pages feature, or at least mention, Monday’s opening of Donald Trump’s first criminal trial in Manhattan. It was a “Stormy Monday for Don,” the New York Daily News says, reporting Trump’s “scowls” and in-court snoozing while playing off the name of hush money recipient Stormy Daniels. The Philadelphia Daily News, under the headline “Hush Hour,” disagrees and says Day 1 of the trial “wasn’t very stormy.” The Houston Chronicle leads with “no jurors chosen,” while USA Today calls the trial’s opening “the real kickoff” to another unpredictable presidential campaign.
Tesla is laying off 10% of its global workforce, several newspapers note. The New York Times reports that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) “says funds for Ukraine and Israel will finally get vote,” though, controversially, in separate bills.
