Hailey Bieber debuts the bob 2.0 for Coachella ’24

Clearly, Hailey Bieber is not over her bob era. Having grown out her blunt ‘boyfriend bob’ of 2023 – the look that inspired a culture of minimal haircuts last year – the model and entrepreneur has entered a new bob chapter, debuting a different version of the cut at the 2024 Coachella festival.

“Softer than the boyfriend bob which has more structure to it, this has a more curved feminine silhouette,” London hairstylist and hair trend forecaster Tom Smith tells Bazaar of Bieber’s new bob which is longer in length. Debuting the look on Instagram (below), she wore it styled in a centre-parting, blow-dried with natural texture and airy volume. The results nods to her minimal-leaning ‘90s aesthetic (one that whispers cool over classic), but with an embrace of the season’s luxurious, ‘old money’ vibe – the blunt length combined with cushioned blow-dry styling.

But Bieber’s choice of hair colour is as significant as her cuts, given how influential they become (from ‘espresso brunette’ to ‘chocolate locks’ and ‘honey-glazed blonde’, she’s behind many modern viral movements in hair colour). And alongside her new cut she appears to be embracing a move towards summer’s evolution of the cool-neutral ‘taupe brown’, “as its got a hint of a neutral tone,” notes Smith.

“As I predicted towards the end of 2023, this year will hero brown and brunette shades,” he says. “With monochrome dressing in fashion at an all time high, and tonal browns as popular now as they were in the early 00’s, this taupe and mushroom inspired brown shade is a great option for those wanting to play with brunette shades but keen to keep away from warmth, red or chocolate tones. This is a whisper of brunette rather than a shout.” He says it’s best combined with healthy, shiny condition and “combines well with the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic that remains popular” (another understated beauty look we can thank Bieber for…).
