UFC 300 live blog: Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill
This is the UFC 300 live blog for Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill, the middleweight title fight this Saturday in Las Vegas.
One of the most remarkable stories in MMA the past few years, Pereira is one of only nine fighters to ever hold gold in two UFC divisions, despite only joining the promotion in 2021. The former Glory kickboxing champion won the middleweight title over Israel Adesanya in 2023, and then after losing the belt in their rematch, moved up to light heavyweight wheere he was able to knock out Jiri Prochazka in only his second fight in the division to claim the vacant 205-pound title. A successful title defense still eludes Pereira, who hopes to change that on Saturday.
After Prochazka vacated his light heavyweight title due to injury in 2022 and Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev fought to a draw in the ensuing vacant title fight, Hill received some good fortune as he stepped in against Glover Texeira in another vacant title fight in 2023. That evening, Hill turned in the best performance of his career and won the undisputed title, but an achilles injury in the summer forced “Sweet Dreams” to vacate the belt. Now recovered from his injury, Hill hopes to reclaim the title he was forced to give up.
