Live Masters updates: Scheffler is the man to beat at Augusta

Ok, let’s set the stage for the day:

– Scottie Scheffler (-7) is going for green jacket No. 2 and major win No. 2. It’s one thing be ranked No. 1, another to get it done on the biggest stages. Big opportunity for him.

– Collin Morikawa (-6) has gotten it done on the biggest stage, with a PGA and an Open already on his resume. A win here today would put him a US Open away from a career Grand Slam.

– Max Homa (-5) has not been good at majors. In fact, he’s been mostly bad. He has just one top-10 finish in 16 starts.

– Ludvig Aberg (-4) is competing in his very FIRST major. So, um, starting it out with a Masters victory would be something. Keep in mind, the last rookie to win at Augusta was Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.

– Bryson DeChambeau (-3) might have saved his tournament with the dunk at 18 on Saturday. He was staring at bogey, instead carded a birdie. That’s a two-shot swing. While he does have a major to his credit, Augusta National has never been kind to him. His best finish here in five previous appearances: T29.

– Xander Schauffele (-2) is the best player right now who hasn’t won a major. Sure, he has an Olympic gold, but certainly he’d trade that for a green jacket.
