We have reached the ATP Marrakech final and are set up with a very intriguing battle. Former World No. 6 Matteo Berrettini is into his first ATP final in 19 months as he continues his return from injury. He squares off against veteran Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, who is looking to win back-to-back titles in Marrakech. Who do you think will raise the title?
ATP Marrakech Final Prediction
Matteo Berrettini vs Roberto Carballes Baena
Head-to-Head: Berrettini 2-1 Carballes Baena
Is Matteo Berrettini back to his top-ten form? The former World No. 6 is into his first ATP since October 2022. Two weeks ago at the Phoenix Challenger, he reached the final before falling to Nuno Borges. This week, he beat four top 75 players, including those coming from a set down, to take out Mariano Navone in the semis.
He will play Roberto Carballes Baena in the ATP Marrakech final. These two split their previous two meetings in 2022. The 31-year-old Spaniard has dropped just one set en route to the final this week. He won this event last year and has seemingly carried that momentum over to the 2024 edition.
I questioned how Berrettini would respond in the semifinals against a clay-court specialist in Navone. After dropping the first set, the Italian passed all the tests and showed his ability to hold a high level for nearly three hours. Carballes Baena will look to extend rallies and frustrate Berrettini by extending points. I believe this strategy will work, but Berrettini has been very impressive since his return from injury. Expect a three-set battle, but I give the edge to the Italian as he claims his first title since June 2022.
Prediction: Berrettini in 3
