It’s been five weeks and we still don’t know why or how 26-year-old Elaysha Gilliam, a pregnant Black mother of four, was found dead in a park field.

Police in Kansas City said that on Feb. 19 officers responded to a call and then  went to a field near Dunbar Park where they found Gilliam’s body. They said she appeared to be suffering from bodily trauma and multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency respondents pronounced her dead on the scene. She was just 12 weeks along with her fifth child.

Little to no tips have been offered to suggest how she died. Her parents tell NBC News the night of her death, she may have left home to see her boyfriend because she left her other four children with her mother.

However, Gilliam never returned home to pick up her kids.

The lack of information from police has only frustrated Clydetta, who said many of her questions regarding the death are unanswered.

“Are there any fingerprints from shell cases? What was found around her? Did she have clothes on when she was found?” Elaysha’s stepmother asked.

Detectives said they are making progress toward identifying a person of interest but have also asked for the public’s help with gathering information, and are offering a reward of up to $25,000.

“That case remains under investigation as a homicide,” the department told NBC News in an email.

According to Gilliam’s family, she was making a new beginning for herself before this tragedy – moving into a new place, starting a new job and making plans to open up a hair salon. They remembered her as the one who made sacrifices to provide for the ones she cared about.

The love and joy she brought her family makes her death all the more heartbreaking – and remains the driving force behind why they will not give up until they receive justice.

“I’m not gonna let them sweep this under the rug. I want every single person charged,” said her stepmother, Clydetta, via NBC.
