‘There are all the best athletes,’ Humble Jannik Sinner sets his eyes on Paris Olympics, opens up about taking inspiration from the best athletes
The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will get underway on July 16, and Italian tennis youngster Jannik Sinner is looking forward to making his country proud by winning the gold. After winning the Miami Open on Sunday, March 31, Sinner said he can’t wait to meet the best athletes at the Olympics.
Sinner will feature at the Olympics for the first time. When asked about being a flag bearer, he said that though he hasn’t contemplated much about it, he is excited to meet the best athletes in the world in Paris.
I mean, I don’t want to rush myself. I don’t think about being the flag bearer at the Olympics. The Games will be a key moment in my career. It will be the first time I will participate. There are all the best athletes in the world, who I can’t wait to meet and from whom I want to take inspiration. Jannik Sinner told Tennis Channel
In the Miami Open final, Sinner easily defeated Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to become the champion of the tournament for the first time. He also topped Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz to become the new World No. 2, which made him the first Italian to reach the spot in the ATP Rankings.
Jannik Sinner trolls journalist after Miami Open win
During the post-match press conference, Jannik Sinner trolled journalists when the latter made a silly mistake. The journalists questioned what Sinner would like the best: winning the Miami Open or becoming a World No. 1 player.
“No, No. 1?” was Sinner’s reply. The journalist then corrected himself, as Sinner has become the second-ranked player in the rankings. But he did not leave the chance to troll the journalist by cheekily replying, “Unforced error.”
Sinner, en route to his Miami crown, eliminated Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals 6-1, 6-2. Prior to this, he knocked out the likes of Tomas Machac, Christopher O’Connell, Tallon Griekspoor, and Andrea Vavassory.
His only defeat this year came at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells semifinals. Sinner is also now 22-1 on the season. After this Miami Open win, Sinner’s next target is the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters trophy. Last year, he faced defeat in the semifinals when Holger Rune knocked him out in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.
