A Georgia mother who set out to protect her child was just convicted of murder for a revenge plot gone wrong. According to a March 29 press release issued by the Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney, a jury found 42-year-old Danyale Harris guilty on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after she and a group attempted to confront the man she believed sexually abused her daughter.

Here’s what happened: Back in March 2020, Harris allegedly found a video of her 12-year-old daughter being sexually abused by 22-year-old Antonio Harley. Ms. Harris reported the incident to the DeKalb County Police Department, who told her they would be in touch and warned her not to “let her anger get the best of her,” according to the release.

But Harris wasn’t satisfied with the response she received from the police and decided to take matters into her own hands. According to prosecutors, she showed up at Harley’s apartment complex with a group of people – three of whom were armed.

After her daughter identified Harley’s apartment, Harris and her group knocked on the door. When Harley came out from the side of the apartment building, the group chased him until he went back into his apartment through another door. Prosecutors said someone in Harris’ group then shot through Harley’s door and hit him in the chest. Harley’s brother fired back from inside the apartment.

Juan Newkirk, a 19-year-old who came with Harris’ group, was shot and killed during the confrontation.

After the verdict was read, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Asha F. Jackson sentenced Harris to life in prison, with the possibility of parole, plus five years, according to the press release. Harley, whose case is pending, faces charges of statutory rape, child molestation, and sexual exploitation of children.
