Report: Eagles trading Pro Bowl pass rusher Haason Reddick to Jets for draft pick
The Philadelphia Eagles are trading pass rusher Haason Reddick to the New York Jets for a draft pick, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
Per the report, the Eagles will receive a conditional 2026 third-round pick in return that could be converted to a second-round pick. The 29-year-old veteran will join his fourth team in his eighth NFL season.
Per the report, the draft pick will convert to a second-round pick if Reddick plays 67.5% of New York’s defensive snaps and records 10 or more sacks. Otherwise, it will remain a third-round selection.
Trading places
New York and Philadelphia have effectively swapped their best pass rushers. Bryce Huff led the Jets last season and joined the Eagles in free agency.
Reddick will fill the hole left by Huff on a pass rush that ranked seventh in the NFL in 2023 with 48 sacks. Huff recorded 10 sacks last season. No other Jets player recorded more than 7.5.
Reddick has recorded at least 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons. He made the Pro Bowl after each of the last two seasons and was an All-Pro in 2022 after recording 16 sacks and a league-high five forced fumbles. He posted 11 sacks and 13 tackles for loss in 2023.
Salary cap implications
Reddick is approaching the final year of a three-year, $45 million contract and is scheduled to become a free agent in 2025 without a new deal. He counts for a $21.8 million salary cap hit this season, which would have been the biggest on Philadelphia’s payroll.
Per Spotrac, the Eagles had roughly $31.5 million in available cap space before trading Reddick, leaving them with significant roster flexibility. It’s not clear how they intend to use that space with the bulk of free agency already in the books.
The Eagles ranked 20th in the NFL last season with 43 sacks. Josh Sweat, who will return, was second on the team with 6.5 sacks.
