Chelsea vs Wolves LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Chelsea vs Wolves LIVE!

Matheus Cunha‘s hat-trick helped Wolves claim a 4-2 comeback victory at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea dropped into the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were booed off by home fans at the end of a second loss in four days, whilst the name of former owner Roman Abramovich could be heard ringing around the ground.

Cole Palmer‘s goal had seemed to have his side on their way to a fifth home league win in a row when he slotted in after 19 minutes.

Thereafter however, Gary O’Neil’s team dictated everything, with Cunha leading the way, although Chelsea will deem themselves unfortunate to have conceded from two big deflections in the first half, one of which was given as an own goal against Axel Disasi.

Thiago Silva headed a consolation near the end before home supporters let the depth of their anger be known.

Chelsea vs Wolves highlights

  • GOAL! Palmer nets after slick passing move

  • GOAL! Cunha’s deflected shot levels score

  • GOAL! Disasi own goal puts Wolves ahead

  • GOAL! Second for Cunha for 3-1 lead

  • GOAL! Cunha bags hat-trick from the spot

  • GOAL! Silva consolation for Chelsea

Chelsea humbled again as Neto dazzles and Cunha nets hat-trick

16:24 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea sunk into the bottom half of the Premier League table after being comprehensively outplayed by Wolves in a 4-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer had fired Chelsea into an early lead before Matheus Cunha’s deflected effort dragged the visitors level only minutes later. That suckerpunch left the Blues reeling and it was little surprise to see Wolves ahead before the break through Axel Disasi’s own goal.

Cunha scored twice in the second half to notch a deserved hat-trick on a miserable day for the hosts, who cut the deficit through a Thiago Silva consolation.

Thiago Silva’s wife sends cryptic message to Chelsea

16:21 , Marc Mayo

Bella Silva, the wife of Chelsea star Thiago Silva, hinted that his time at the club may soon be up after Sunday’s defeat to Wolves.

Speculation over the 39-year-old Brazilian’s future has ramped up after he spoke openly about his chances of leaving west London last month.

Silva’s Chelsea contract expires in the summer and, while he has enjoyed a late career renaissance in the capital, his performances of late have dipped and he was comprehensively beaten for pace by Pedro Neto for Wolves’ third goal.

As the scoreline turned against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, Belle Silva took to X (formerly Twitter) to hint that their time at the club may be up.

“It’s time to change,” she wrote. “If you wait any longer it will be too late.”

Games like this show how stats don’t show the whole picture…

Wolves only one shot to the good, 14-13, and with five on target to seven. Chelsea have also bossed possession.

Yet, by any metric, having watched the game you cannot argue with this scoreline.

Chelsea 1-3 Wolves | 66 mins

15:28 , Marc Mayo

This is fast turning into just the latest disaster Chelsea have experienced in recent years.

Their home form has been the saving grace of an average league season and they’re heading for the bottom half of the table with a first defeat in west London since October.

Matheus Cunha finds Pablo Sarabia for another Wolves chance… over.

Couple of efforts from Cole Palmer as he gets more involved, first blocked and second dragged wide.

Moises Caicedo off for Nicolas Jackson, which should see Christopher Nkunku drop a bit deeper.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

15:22 , Marc Mayo

It won’t surprise anyone to hear Cole Palmer has been head and shoulders the best player for Chelsea today. He needs some help and that help is coming in the form of Nicolas Jackson from the bench.

Chelsea 1-2 Wolves | 58 mins

15:20 , Marc Mayo

GOA-NO!

Wolves think they have a third but the whistle had already gone for a foul as the corner came in.

Chelsea 1-2 Wolves | 57 mins

15:19 , Marc Mayo

Once again, Moises Caicedo commits a foul right on the edge of his own box as he hauls down Pablo Sarabia.

This time, it’s a booking.

This time, it’s Pedro Neto to take… off the wall.

Chelsea 1-2 Wolves | 56 mins

15:17 , Marc Mayo

Pablo Sarabia has been the quietest of the Wolves front three so far but he’ll strike this set piece. Narrowly wide!

Chelsea 1-2 Wolves | 55 mins

Moises Caicedo misses the ball in a tackle on Matheus Cunha just outside the Chelsea box, clear foul… and a very decent shooting chance ahead.

Sterling has missed a huge chance for Chelsea.

A wonderful move where Cole Palmer’s great crossfield ball is cut back by Chilwell, but Sterling’s shot is sliced wide. Pedro Neto had just gone through on goal moments early, though.

Chelsea 1-2 Wolves | 47 mins

CHANCE!

Chelsea 1-2 Wolves | Kick-off!

15:08 , Marc Mayo

The second half begins in west London.

No changes from Mauricio Pochettino but he sent his team out early.

Pedro Neto already on the attack though, and he shoots straight at the goalkeeper.

Wolves good value for their lead

14:59 , Marc Mayo

Yes, the visitors required two deflections to thwart Djordje Petrovic in the Chelsea goal but they have responded very well to going behind.

A bit of a lull in their pressing game resulted in the hosts’ only goal but they have kicked on since and know a third may well seal the points.

Not much to shout about for Chelsea

14:54 , Marc Mayo

Aside from the odd moment of attacking inspiration, most of which have been sparked by Conor Gallagher, it has been drab stuff from the home team.

Christopher Nkunku has barely had a touch in the last half hour, Raheem Sterling is absent and Cole Palmer uninspired outside of the box (inside it, he produced a nice finish to put Chelsea 1-0 up).

In possession, Wolves are hunting them down with aplomb and Mauricio Pochettino will have to rally his men from a losing position once again.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

14:52 , Marc Mayo

Widespread boos at half-time. Chelsea look anxious, lacking in aggression and confidence. Pedro Neto has been the best player on the pitch at Stamford Bridge.

An important 45 minutes to come as 11th in the Premier League are beating 10th.

Chelsea 1-2 Wolves | Half-time!

14:50 , Marc Mayo

A very low-key end to the half from the Blues and they are booed off at the break.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

14:47 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea’s anxious energy eventually sees them undone as Pedro Neto, who has been the best player on the pitch, set up Rayan Ait-Nouri to put Wolves 2-1 ahead.

Chelsea haven’t been at all convincing but can count themselves a little unlucky as another deflection took it past Djordje Petrovic, this time coming off Axel Disasi.

Wolves fans are chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea 1-2 Wolves | 45 mins

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

It will surprise no one to read that Chelsea lack the aggression shown by Wolves and look anxious under the weight of expectation to win this 10th vs 11th clash at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea 1-1 Wolves | 41 mins

14:42 , Marc Mayo

Superb ball into the box by Conor Gallagher to pick out Malo Gusto’s run, but the cutback evades the flat-footed Christopher Nkunku.

Wolves break and Pedro Neto’s shot is blocked before he is booked for a bit of a cruncher on Ben Chilwell.

Chelsea 1-1 Wolves | 38 mins

14:39 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea are making this hard for themselves, with Wolves in the ascendancy as the break approaches.

Nelson Semedo booked for kicking the ball away after Joao Gomes had chopped Moises Caicedo in the centre circle.

Around the grounds

Manchester United have the lead over West Ham, Rasmus Hojlund hitting the first-half opener.

Chelsea 1-1 Wolves | 34 mins

Weak attempt by Enzo Fernandez to win a penalty.

Running into touch down the right-side of the box, he hits the deck under pressure from Mario Lemina – but no dice. VAR has a quick look and confirms.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

14:34 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea are looking really nervy despite scoring a great goal. Matheus Cunha has headed an effort onto the roof of the net.

The main issue is Chelsea keep losing the ball in their own half, with Wolves pressing at the right time and sitting off when they need to. This mid-table battle feels like a high stakes one for Chelsea, who expect to do better.

Chelsea 1-1 Wolves | 32 mins

14:32 , Marc Mayo

Nice flick on from the set-piece by Matheus Cunha, but he gets a little too much on the header and it lands on the roof of the net.

Chelsea 1-1 Wolves | 31 mins

14:32 , Marc Mayo

Not for the first time today, Chelsea give the ball away in their own half.

Malo Gusto makes up for the error though, before moments later giving it away and fouling Matheus Cunha.

To me, to you, to me, to you. Yellow card.

Chelsea 1-1 Wolves | 29 mins

14:30 , Marc Mayo

Lovely little training ground move from a Chelsea free-kick on the right flank.

It’s rolled into the path of Raheem Sterling to dart into the right-hand channel of the box, but he leans back and hoofs a bouncing ball high into the stand.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

14:28 , Marc Mayo

Cole Palmer has his 10th league goal this season, 12th in all competitions for Chelsea and 14th of the season, if you include his two for Manchester City before his move.

Matheus Cunha has been officially awarded the Wolves goal, despite the hefty nick it took off Thiago Silva’s thigh.

Chelsea 1-1 Wolves | 25 mins

Cole Palmer makes it 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in a beautiful team goal. Enzo Fernandez fed Conor Gallagher in, who touched it around the corner to Moises Caicedo, and his well-weighted through ball allowed Palmer to produce a first time finish.

Before that I noticed how Ben Chilwell has been really aggressive in his duels today. A point to prove after the Anfield test made him look not match fit. Pedro Neto keeps finding great spaces to hurt Chelsea when their attacking full-backs go forward, though.

While Chelsea’s home record is very good, Wolves have been more than decent on their travels of late.

They have also beaten Chelsea in both of their last two meetings, albeit at Molineux…

Mauricio Pochettino warns Mykhailo Mudryk

13:45 , Marc Mayo

Mauricio Pochettino has sent Mykhailo Mudryk a warning over his first-team involvement, as he defended Chelsea’s points total this season.

Mudryk has dropped down the pecking order in wide positions, having joined Chelsea for £88.5million.

Asked why the Ukrainian is increasingly being overlooked, Pochettino said: “He started the game against Middlesbrough in the semi-final, which is one of the most important games for us.

“Yes, now he is on the bench. Look, it’s about the form during the season – if you keep your form and you are the best during every training session. As coaching staff, we are a meritocracy – we are going to play with the players who are going to do their best on the pitch.

“I think he’s a young guy that arrived here one year ago. We know the circumstances around [the transfer]. Of course, he needs to improve. He has amazing quality and potential, but it’s a [team] game, it’s not tennis.

“We have players that need to perform in a group. If you see him, it’s amazing, but after, you need to adapt and play for the team – he needs to adapt, and all of that needs time.”

Home comforts for Chelsea

13:39 , Marc Mayo

It has been one hell of a run at the Bridge for the Blues.

Since losing to Brentford in late October, they are on a ten-game unbeaten run.

In that time, they have scored 25 and conceded just nine in all competitions.

This is also a venue Wolves have not won at since 1979…

Thiago Silva set for last stand

“Father Time may finally have caught up with Thiago Silva”

The Brazilian veteran is once again in the Chelsea line-up at the grand age of 39.

But a series of errors this season has left question marks over Silva’s ability to continue at the top level, as Nizaar writes ahead of the game.

Chelsea vs Wolves | Countdown to kick-off

13:26 , Marc Mayo

We have just over half an hour to go until this match kicks off in west London.

The warm-ups are just getting underway and our reporter Nizaar Kinsella has delivered his video preview from the press box.

Mauricio Pochettino hints Chelsea need set-piece specialist

13:18 , Marc Mayo

Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t believe he has a set-piece specialist in his squad and hinted that it might be the type of player that Chelsea need to sign in future.

The Blues have scored five Premier League goals from set-pieces this season, excluding penalties, meaning that 11 clubs have currently outscored them from dead-ball situations.

Past specialists like Willian, Marcos Alonso and Mason Mount have all left west London in recent seasons, as the new owners have produced a near-total overhaul of the squad.

Chelsea have scored four fewer set-piece goals this term than Wolves, whom they face on Sunday, and Pochettino was asked whether a specialist is needed to fix the problem.

“We work a lot on set-pieces,” the Argentine told reporters. “We have specialists. We are a coaching staff in charge of everything. We have a group of analysts for set-pieces.”

Mauricio Pochettino is in desperate need of a win and you start to wonder where it will come. Gary O’Neil will have his players well organised as ever and is perfectly capable of out-coaching his Argentine counterpart and come away with all three points.

Chelsea clearly have the best squad on paper but, with confidence arguably never lower after being thumped by Liverpool, you can see another damaging result for the hosts.

Wolves to win, 1-0.
