Iga Swiatek was beaten early at the US Open , losing the chance to defend her trophy from last year, and she spoke about it in a recent interview.
Swiatek didn’t have the best US Open, certainly not the type of event she would have liked. Having won the trophy last ear, many expected her to at least get to the semi-final, but she didn’t because Jelena Ostapenko beat her .
Iga Swiatek reflected on her early US Open exit in a recent exclusive interview with Eurosport Poland , talking about how she doesn’t necessarily see the early exit as a failure as many described it. As she said, it’s not the first time and won’t be the last time that she loses early in a Grand Slam event.
It’s not the first time I’ve lost in the fourth round. (…) Don’t consider it a total failure like many people say. I know that such a tournament can happen. Even last year I was very close to falling out in the fourth round. Sometimes it will be possible to get out of such a situation, and sometimes not.

Having to play Ostapenko certainly didn’t make things easy for Swiatkek because she doesn’t have an excellent H2H against the Latvian. It proved true once more, and she lost another match, and in the interview, she admitted that she didn’t like the matchup.
I don’t like playing with Ostapenko. There are simply players who are uncomfortable to play with. I bet she has the opposite situation and she likes my style exceptionally. It’s completely natural in tennis. There is nothing to disstrophe, you have to move forward.”

She’ll make a return in a few weeks in Asia hoping to shake off the kind of worse performance in North America.
