The Soldotna softball team recorded wins — 19-1 in four innings and 27-4 in three innings — over Houston on Friday in Northern Lights Conference action at the Soldotna Little League fields.
The Stars improve to 3-3 in the league and 4-7-1 overall.
In the first game, Soldotna led 17-0 after the top of the fourth, then the Hawks were able to score a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Kiara “KiKi” Forkner pitched two scoreless and hitless innings, walking two and striking out one. Lexi Stormo gave up a run and two hits in two innings, walking three and striking out two.
At the plate for SoHi, Miah Mead was 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs, Forkner scored two runs, Alyssa McDonald was 2 for 3 with two runs, Brook Fischer was 2 for 4 with two runs and six RBIs, Stormo was 2 for 4, Bailey Conner was 2 for 4, Makynzi Deborski was 2 for 3 with three runs, Isabelle Cruz was 2 for 3 with two runs, Juliet Innes was 2 for 2, Londyn Deborski had two runs, and Kacey Cunningham was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.
In the 27-4 game, Houston grabbed a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but SoHi scored five times in the bottom of the first and 22 times in the bottom of the second.
Makynzi Deborski was 4 for 4 with four runs and two RBIs, Fischer was 3 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs, Stormo was 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs, Forkner was 2 for 2 with four runs, Londyn Deborski scored two runs, Conner had two runs and three RBIs, Cruz had two runs, Innes was 4 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs, and McDonald was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Wasilla 9, Kenai 5
The Kards dropped a nonconference game Friday at the Steve Shearer Memorial Ball Park to fall to 6-10 overall.
Wasilla jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the second and Kenai never put a big inning together, scoring once in five of the seven innings.
Avery Ellis gave up nine runs on 10 hits for Kenai, walking eight and striking out four. Lola McEwen got two outs without allowing a run or a hit.
Kailey Stynsberg was 2 for 4 for the Kards, while Maggie Grenier was 2 for 4, Ellis had two runs, Kyana Griskevich was 2 for 4, Izzie Katzenberger was 2 for 2, and Shelby Hemphill was 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
Kodiak 10, Homer 2
The visiting Bears notched a Northern Lights Conference victory Friday to drop Homer to 3-3 in the league and 3-13 overall.
Kodiak led 8-0 going into the fifth, with Homer scoring twice in the top of the inning. The Mariners would get no closer.
Ariana Davis led Homer on offense with a pair of RBIs.
The Wasilla softball team notched a 12-7 nonconference victory over Soldotna on Saturday at the Soldotna Little League fields.
The Warriors jumped to a 9-0 lead after the first two innings. The Stars cut it to 9-3 after three, but Wasilla expanded the lead to 12-3 in the top of the fifth.
Wasilla got to Miah Meah for nine runs in 1 1-3 innings. Isabelle Cruz then came in and gave up three runs on seven hits in 5 1-3 innings of work. Cruz was able to strike out six.
Mead led the Stars at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Also for SoHi, Brook Fischer was 2 for 4 and Cruz was 2 for 4.
