Welcome to the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic, the PGA Tour’s stop in Detroit, Michigan.
There are 156 players competing for the tournament’s fourth annual title at the Detroit Golf Club, and two of the three previous winners are in the field: Nate Lashley (2019) and defending champion Cam Davis (2021) tee off with Tony Finau at 7:18 a.m. 2020 winner Bryson DeChambeau joined LIV Golf and is off the Tour.
This might be the deepest field yet of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, with 11 of the top-50 ranked players in the world set to tee off. World No. 4 and 2021 FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay is the highest-ranked player in the field and the betting favorite at around 10-1. Other top contenders include World No. 16 Finau, fresh off a win Sunday at the 3M Open in Minnesota, No. 13 Will Zalatoris, No. 19 Cameron Young and No. 20 Max Homa.
There are 11 major championship winners in the field, notably Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Jason Day, Stewart Cink, 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson, Keegan Bradley and World Golf Hall of Famer Davis Love III.
Detroit Golf Club, opened in 1899, has two 18-hole courses, the North and South, both designed by the legendary Donald Ross. The setup — mostly using the North — is rerouted for the Tour for a par-72 of 7,370 yards, and is the flattest course on Tour. The tree-lined, up-and-back routing is old-school, and only one hole has a water hazard, the par-5 14th. Driving accuracy and exquisite putting on the undulating greens are key to victory.
The tournament will stream all day via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+, starting at 7 a.m., with a main feed channel, featured groups and featured holes. Golf Channel is broadcasting on television in the afternoon from 3-6 p.m. Play begins at 6:45 in the morning from both the first and 10th tees, and the final group tees at 2:22 in the afternoon.
