Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to miss French Open, rest of 2020 due to injury

A lower back problem that has plagued Jo-Wilfried Tsonga throughout 2020 will prevent the Frenchman from participating in this month’s French Open or playing again until some point in 2021.

The 35-year-old announced the update via social media.

As noted by Reuters (h/t ESPN), Tsonga has been out of action since the back injury forced him off the court during an Australian Open first-round matchup versus Alexei Popyrin.

“But I still have the morale, the rage, the desire and the motivation to come back in 2021, hoping that things will develop for the better,” Tsonga said.

“Getting back to the courts and fighting against all these incredible players would be a dream.”

Tsonga, ranked No. 52 in the world, made semifinal appearances in the 2013 and 2015 French Open tournaments.
