A HUGE designer candle that smells of the River Thames near Dagenham has gone on sale for £450.
The creation, by Tom Dixon, also has notes of red bricks and nettles.
But it is the odd boast of having the pong of the waterway passing near the East London suburb that is bound to intrigue customers at department store Selfridges.
Would-be buyers are told: “Tom Dixon has been around London for a while.
“But just to reiterate his connection to the city, the designer has created the London scented candle, with notes inspired by red brick, the crocuses and nettles in London parks and the salty smell of the Thames in Dagenham.”
The 3.3kg candle has a burn time of 170 hours and comes in a copper pot with a marble lid.
Dixon, 61, a former head of design at Habitat, now runs his own design house, specialising in furniture and lighting.
Hollywood A-lister Gwyneth Paltrow is also famous for her range of unusual candles and scents on her Goop website.
