A LEADING scientist has said the coronavirus crisis in the UK will ‘get worse over the next couple of weeks’ before cases then start to decrease.
In today’s government press conference Sir Patrick Vallance said the number of coronavirus cases will grow for up to three weeks ‘because there’s a lag phase’.
So far, 1,408 people have died from the virus and there are more than 22,000 cases in the UK.
Yesterday Secretary of State for Housing, Robert Jenrick urged Brits to stay home.
In Sunday’s press briefing Mr Jenrick revealed that 50 thousand of the UK’s most vulnerable will receive government care packages by the end of the week.
He also announced “strategic coordination centres” around the country led by respective “gold commanders” – emergency service leaders that are specifically trained to handle major events.
Mr Jenrick said: “We each have a part to play by staying at home, protecting the NHS and saving lives.
“When this is done – and it will be done – we all want to proud of the part we played together.”
