After all these years, Tom Cruise still completes Renée Zellweger.
Accepting the best actress award for her portrayal of Judy Garland, Zellweger gave a shout out to several of her fellow actors, including Tom Cruise “for your example of professionalism on set and striving on set and generosity and unconditional kindness.”
Zellweger and Cruise starred opposite each other in the 1996 romantic comedy-drama flick that catapulted the future “Bridget Jones’s Diary” star’s career.
She also expressed thanks to the rest of the nominees: “What an honor from my actor family, thank you so much for this,” she said. “To this community: Y’all have taught me so much, especially my sisters: Your example inspires me.”
And she wrapped it up by celebrating the performer that got her the award in the first place: “I’m just so grateful for reflecting on the life of one of our own and most beloved… Judy Garland, 50 years later, your community is thinking of you tonight. This is for you.”
Fans of “Jerry Maguire” expressed their love for the shout-out on social media.
“Renee Zellwegger shouting out Tom Cruise was pretty cool,” tweeted user @kevinlockett. “Cruise rarely gets nominated anymore but his work ethic on the set, creates a blueprint for his fellow actors to follow.”
“Renee zellweger shouting out tom cruise,” @mebweezy captioned a still of Cruise donning sunglasses in the movie.
“Anyone who had the ‘Tom Cruise Shout Out’ square on their #SAGAwards Bingo card, please make your way to the front desk. Thank you,” joked @RJ_Number8.
